PY5700 Biological Psychology
This module covers the biological bases of normal behaviour, the behavioural consequences of brain damage and the methods of studying brain function and dysfunction.
PY5701 Cognitive Psychology
This module provides the core requirements for BPS accreditation with regard to Cognitive Psychology. Students will learn about attention processes; perception and cognition; thinking and language and cognitive neuropsychology. Students will examine learning and memory processes.
PY5603 Developmental Psychology
This module explores childhood, adolescence and life-span development. Students will learn about the development of attachment and social relations and examine cognitive and language development.
PY5604 Individual Differences
This module provides an overview of personality psychology. Students examine psychological testing and intelligence, explore issues concerning mental health and learn about aspects of personality including emotion, motivation and mood.
PY5608 Introduction to Psychological Science
This module introduces students to the principles and scientific foundations of psychology. Students will learn a conceptual overview of how psychology has developed as an academic discipline and will understand the the principle research methodologies used in psychological research.
PY5609 Qualitative Research Methods
In this module students will learn the principles and techniques for selecting and applying research to address different questions. Students will critically evaluate the methodology and findings of published studies and learn how qualitative findings can be effectively presented in writing and verbally.
PY5630 - Research Methods and Academic Skills - Psychology
This module aims to teach students the fundamentals of scientific methods and research, alongside the principles of conducting ethical research and experimental design. Students will discover the principles and techniques for selecting and applying the most appropriate statistical tests for the research data that they wish to analyse. Students will also learn SPSS knowledge and technical skills and how to present their scientific findings in writing.
PY5605 Social Psychology
In this module students will learn about attribution, the self, close relationships, aggression, conformity, persuasion, leadership and prejudice. Students will examine the relationship between the individual and society and explore theoretical debates around social cognition, social influence, social relationships and group life.
PY5607 Dissertation
The dissertation project enables students to carry out independent empirical research, including defining a research problem.
