CORE MODULES Academic English Skills This module aims to provide you with thorough training in the language and related academic skills which will enable you to best achieve your academic potential at University. These skills include the processes of academic writing, effective and extensive reading strategies, effective participation in seminars and delivery of presentations, and listening to and recording information effectively from lectures. You will also develop the accuracy and range of written and spoken language required to use language effectively and appropriately, with clarity and confidence in an academic context. SUBJECT-SPECIFIC MODULES Economics You will be introduced to basic economic theory and how it applies to business. This module will also focus on developing your ability to use the economic view of firms, markets and the general economy to inform your decision-making process. Organisational Behaviour You will learn about human behaviour in organisations, from the perspective of individual employees, work groups and the organisation itself. This will focus on establishing and developing your skills through theoretical learning, using the practical application of ideas in a management and organisational setting. Business and Society This module is designed to help you understand the role that businesses play in society, and how businesses adapt to the market demands in their environments. You will learn about how businesses make positive contributions that lead to society’s development, through innovative corporate strategic models. Enhancing Your Talent and Skills You will learn how to use a range of resources and tools to facilitate your smooth transition to the university, support the successful completion of your undergraduate programme and develop your professional skills for the industry. Fundamentals of Accounting The module is designed to equip you with a basic understanding of accounting systems and balance sheets in a business setting. You will learn about the importance of financial reports to different stakeholders in a business organisation. Management of Business Organisations You will be introduced to key aspects of management within business organisations. This module will give you an insight into management functions such as staffing, organising, planning, controlling, directing, and leading. Starting Your Own Business This module will introduce you to business planning, finance, management and operations. In small groups, you will work together to set-up a business venture, learn how businesses operate and enhance your entrepreneurial skills. Dynamic Business Environment This module will introduce students to the dynamic nature of modern-day business. You will expand your commercial awareness, learning the impact of globalisation on businesses while developing a critical understanding of organisational strategy and overall business performance. PROGRESSION DEGREES You will be required to take an AES test at the end of your course, details of AES requirements below. This means that once you successfully complete the International Year One, you will be ready to start your degree at the University of Leeds.
